On Monday, 15 June 2026, the traditional CGDIS medal ceremony took place at the Käerjenger Treff cultural centre in Bascharage. In the presence of Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden, Mayor of Bascharage Nadine Braconnier, CGDIS Board Chairman Alain Becker and CGDIS Director General Paul Schroeder, around 200 volunteer and professional firefighters, as well as administrative and technical staff members, received medals in recognition of their long-standing commitment. Medals for exceptional service were also awarded to deserving members of the CGDIS. In addition, four search dogs were honoured for their long-standing commitment or for successfully locating a victim. One of these dogs, Charel, received his award posthumously following his passing in May. More information: 112.lu

At the end of May, CGDIS took delivery of 3 new telescopic mast platforms (TMF), which are now entering operational service. These state-of-the-art aerial rescue vehicles make it possible to rescue people or animals from heights of up to 32 metres, as well as from below-ground locations. Unlike a conventional turntable ladder (DLK), the TMF uses a telescopic boom instead of a ladder, allowing for greater flexibility in positioning. An integrated telescopic waterway enables firefighters to supply water directly to the rescue basket, making it possible to fight fires at height. In this short video, discover the new TMF.

On Saturday evening at around 9:30 p.m., the CSU-112 emergency call centre received reports of a building fire in Lultzhausen. Upon arrival, the first CGDIS units found that part of the roof structure was already engulfed in flames. Despite difficult access to the building and the presence of a photovoltaic installation on the roof, our firefighters were able to contain the fire through interior and exterior firefighting operations, including the use of two aerial ladder platforms, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the building. During the firefighting operations, a water supply line was also established from the Upper Sûre Lake to ensure a continuous supply of firefighting water. The building served not only as a sports and climbing hall, but also as a garage for part of the vehicle fleet of the fire and rescue station Alebësch-Eschsauer. The vehicles were, however, brought to safety in time. Around 80 firefighters were deployed, together with the Groupe d’appui technologique opérationnel (GATO), the Groupe d'appui à la coordination opérationnelle (GACO) and the Unité Ravitaillement of the Centre de soutien logistique (CSL). No injuries were reported.
