[Series of Incidents] CGDIS firefighters were heavily engaged on Wednesday, June 11th, responding to multiple fires in the Centre rescue zone. Firefighters from CIS Luxembourg, Hesperange, and Sandweiler battled a blaze in an abandoned house on Rue de Neudorf, asking for backup at around 4:15 p.m. The operation was complicated by heavy smoke, distance from the road, dense vegetation, and high temperatures, requiring additional personnel. At 6:30 p.m., a tire fire on a truck on the A1 motorway required reinforcement from CIS Hesperange. Ten minutes later, a fire in an industrial hall in Munsbach mobilized numerous fire stations (CIS). Quick and coordinated action by the first responders limited the fire to one hall and part of the roof. Firefighters were supported by a health officer and the supply unit. One person was taken to hospital for a check-up.

[Water rescue in Wasserbillig] Shortly after midnight on the night of June 8th, CGDIS firefighters were mobilised for a dramatic traffic accident on the border bridge connecting Wasserbillig to Germany. A vehicle had broken through the bridge’s parapet and plunged upside down into the river Sauer. Two divers from the Groupe de Sauvetage Aquatique (GSAQ) quickly arrived on scene, geared up, and swam to the vehicle. After breaking a window, they extracted an unconscious victim, brought them to the German riverbank, and initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation until emergency services arrived. Despite all efforts, the victim sadly passed away a few hours later in hospital. Two other passengers managed to reach the riverbank on their own. The operation concluded with the vehicle being secured by the GSAQ.
